Day 01:
Arrival in Xi’an
Upon arrival in Xi’an by flight or train, greeted by local representative and transferred to your hotel in Xian.
After refreshment, visit the ancient city wall, the first landmark you see in Xian. It stretches round the old city. Xi'an was originally a walled city, and even today the ancient wall is used to divide the city into the inner part and the outer part. It is massive with tall, long and thick walls. The South Gate and North Gate are the two main entrances to the inner city.

 

   

 

Day 02: Xian Tour; Xian – Dunhuang by flight 
After breakfast, morning excursion to the Terracotta Army Museum, which lies 2 km east of the Tomb of Qin Shihuang, known as the First Emperor , who unified China 2200 years ago. Thousands of life-size and vivid terracotta warriors were buried in battle formation accompanying the emperor into immortality. They had been underground for more than 2000 years before farmers uncovered while digging a well in 1974. As a World Cultural Heritage Site, it is one of the top attractions in China and is regarded as one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century.

 

   

 

Later afternoon, you will take flight to Dunhuang.
Upon arrival in Dunhuang, greeted and transferred to hotel in Dunhuang.

 

Day 03: Dunhuang Tour; Dunhuang – Turpan by overnight train
Morning visit The Mogao Grottoes, which is also known as "the Thousand Buddha Caves", and praised as "a glittering pearl that adorns the Silk Road". They are the most famous Buddhist grottoes in China. Located 25 km away of Dunhuang, these caves are carved out of the sandstone cliffs of the Mingsha Mountains with best preserved Buddhist paintings and statues.

 

   

 

In the afternoon visit Mingsha Mountains, close to the town with sand dunes of dozens of meters high. You can explore the sand dunes by camel, electric car, or by foot (all activities on your own expenses). Riding a camel on the desert is a great experience.
Crescent Spring lies at the foot of the Mountains and is named for its shape. It is about 100m long and 25m wide, and has fish and water weeds that are said to be good for the health. It is also pleasant to walk around the spring surrounded by the desert.

 

   

 

In the evening take an overnight train to Turpan.

 

Day 04: Turpan Tour;
Upon arrival in Turpan, greeted and transferred to have breakfast (on your own expenses) firstly.
Morning visit Gaochang Ancient City, which was built with thick walls in the 1st BC by the Han Dynasty garrison as base to supply frontier troops. The city is well known as the capital of Gaochang Kingdom and Uyghur Gaochang Kingdom. It was destroyed by the Mongol rebellion in the late 13th century.

 

   

 

Afterwards, visit Astana Tombs, which is close to Gaochang and regarded as the underground museum with lots of relics and mummies that date back to the period between 3rd and 8th century AD. 

 

   

 

Then move to Bezeklic Caves in the valley of the Flaming Mountain. Among 77 caves, 40 of them remained with fragments of mostly Buddhist murals. First construction of the caves started in the 6th century and in the 9th century it served as the royal temple for the Uyghur Gaochang Kingdom.

 

   

 

In the afternoon we start with a visit to Jiaohe Ancient City, built in the 2nd BC on a long and narrow plateau with a river on each side, it served as a garrison town in Han Dynasty and it was prosperous in Tang Dynasty but was destroyed by war in the late 13 century.

 

   


Coming up is Karez, which is created by connecting a series of wells by tunnels to the foothills of the mountain so as to bring the underground water to the oasis.

 

   


Then to Imin Minaret, which was built in 1777 in memory of Imin Hoja who, as the leader of Turpan, was always at the head of his army to fight against rebellions. The surface of the minaret is beautifully decorated with brickwork

 

   

 

Day 05: Turpan - Urumqi (by road) – Kashgar by flight
Morning drive 220 km to Urumqi Airport and fly to Kashgar in the afternoon.

 

Day 06: Full day tour to Karakuli Lake
After breakfast, drive 200 km and enjoy the beautiful view along the Karakorum Mountain Highway before we arrive at Karakuli Lake, which is 3600 m above sea level and located at the foot of the Muztagata Peak. This area is inhabited by nomadic Kirghiz people.

 

   

 

Day 07: Kashagar – Urumqi by flight 
Morning visit Abakhoja Tomb, which was built in 1640 in typically Islamic style. The domed tomb hall, covered by blue and green tiles, contains 72 bodies from five generations of the same family.

 

   

 

Next stop is Id Kah Mosque, the largest one in China. It is located in the city center and was originally built in 1442 as a small mosque, and has reached its present size since the extended renovation in 1872.

 

    

 

Sunday is market day in Kashgar, so better come to visit the Grand Bazaar on Sunday.
You see thousands of farmers from neighboring areas flowing to the Bazaar like rivers. Now it has become an international with products from many countries in the Bazaar. The Animal Bazaar is an absolute must for tourists.

 

   

 

In the evening fly back to Urumqi.
Met and transferred to hotel in Urumqi.

 

Day 08: Urumqi Tour
Morning visit the Heavenly Lake, 120 km northeast of Urumqi and 1980 m above sea level. As one of the tourist attractions in China, the lake is a famous summer resort surrounded by snow peaks, pines and grassland. Boat ride on the lake makes you feel refreshing.

 

   

 

In the afternoon visit the Xinjiang Museum, where you will see some world famous ancient mummies such as “Beauty of Loulan” and many other cultural relics. The Ethnic Minority Exhibition is worth visiting.

 

   

 

Day 09 Urumqi Exit.
Pick up from hotel and transfer to airport for departure.

Day 3: Visit the The Mogao Grottoes and Mingsha Mountains. Overnight train to Turpan.
Day 4: Visit Gaochang and Jiaohe Ruins, Astana Tombs, Bezeklic Caves, , Karez Well and Imin Minaret.
Day 5: Drive to Urumqi and and fly to Kashgar.
Day 6: Drive along the Karakorum Highway to visit Karakuli Lake.
Day 7: Visit Abakhoja Tombs, Id Kah Mosque and the Grand Bazaar. Fly back to Urumqi.
Day 8: Visit the Heavenly Lake and the Xinjiang Museum.
Day 9: Fly away from Urumqi.
